Tashiro, Kanagawa Prefecture – May 2025

Last weekend, the Kenyans in Japan Association (KIJA) successfully hosted a vibrant and memorable Spring/Golden Week Camp at the serene Tashiro Area in Kanagawa Prefecture. The event drew together dozens of Kenyans from all over Japan, as well as friends from diverse communities, to enjoy a weekend of connection, culture, and shared experiences.

Set against the picturesque backdrop of Kanagawa’s lush natural scenery, the Spring/GW Camp provided a much-needed escape from the city and an opportunity for attendees to relax, reflect, and reconnect. Activities ranged from outdoor games and bonfire storytelling to cultural showcases and interactive discussions. It was a weekend filled with laughter, learning, and the spirit of togetherness.

Bringing Kenyans Together

This year’s camp marked another important step in strengthening the Kenyan diaspora community in Japan. It served as a platform for networking, mentoring, and celebrating our rich cultural heritage. The diversity of attendees—from students and professionals to families and long-term residents—highlighted the strength and inclusiveness of the Kenyan community.

A Team Effort

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the KIJA Events Committee, whose dedication and planning ensured the success of the event. Your tireless efforts continue to create meaningful opportunities for our community to thrive and remain united.

Special thanks also go to our media and promotional partners, CHAMS Media and AMBIA, for your unwavering support in promoting the voices and visibility of Kenyans abroad. Your presence and coverage added significant value to the event and to the broader mission of diaspora engagement.

Looking Ahead

Events like the Spring/GW Camp are not just about recreation—they are about building a stronger, more connected Kenyan diaspora in Japan. As we move forward, KIJA remains committed to fostering unity, cultural pride, and mutual support among Kenyans and friends of Kenya in Japan.

We are already looking forward to the next gathering and encourage all members to stay engaged, bring along friends, and continue contributing to this growing community.
